What’s in the SCAT6 Form
The SCAT6 is a standardised, multi-step tool for assessing a suspected concussion in athletes aged 13 and over. The PDF runs to several pages and takes 15 to 20 minutes to administer and score by hand. It covers:
Immediate or on-field assessment
Red flags, observable signs, memory assessment (Maddocks questions), Glasgow Coma Scale and cervical spine assessment.
Office or off-field assessment
Athlete background, symptom evaluation (22 symptoms rated 0 to 6), cognitive screening (orientation, immediate memory, concentration), coordination and balance examination, and delayed recall.
Decision and record
A summary of scores against baseline where available, the clinician’s decision, and the athlete information and return-to-sport guidance sheet.
